A few years back I bought a quantity of hand-made paper from the defunct printing shop at the Carthusian monastery at Parkminster. The print-shop closed in the 1960s, but a quantity of hand-made paper remained. The de luxe volume of the Harry Carter book feels like a suitable use for this pile of about 600 sheets of Van Gelder. Harry Carter knew Van Gelder himself and visited the mill, so there is another level of connection which feels fitting. The paper is internally sized so there should be no need to damp it to print properly. I shall make some test impressions to check that theory out. |
