The paper arrives. I have had the 3,500 sheets of Mohawk Superfine guillotined before delivery, making 7,000 pieces of paper. A seven-ton lorry arrived outside - about the largest that can get down our lane and out again - with a pallet on board.

I once had such a delivery where the driver expected me to have a forklift truck to get the pallet off his lorry - he had neither tailgate nor pallet truck, and sullenly stood and waited as I unpacked the pallet in situ and offloaded the paper ream by ream.

No such problems this time, with an obliging driver with appropriate equipment. And here the paper stands, looming next to the press. It's a salutary thought that every piece will have to go through the press twice: 14,000 winds of the cylinder ahead of me.
