Binding materials

The big exhibition of Turner's watercolours at the Museo Correr in Venice was an excellent excuse to have a short trip to Venice, and of course to visit Alberto Valese who hand-blocks paper with traditional Venetian designs. I want one paper for the binding of the main volume and a second for the box which will contain the watercolours.

I met Signore Valese at his shop in early December 2004 and we had a chance to discuss the colour for the two papers: one with a pattern called Ca' d'Oro, after the palace on the Grand Canal whose facade is the basis for the pattern, and another with a small repeat 'roof-tile' pattern in light grey.
