More ink needed Each of the illustrations that Signor Rapp has done for seven of the villas includes a line drawing and a linocut. I shall get a line-block photoengraved from each line drawing and print those in black. But the lino-cuts must be printed first, with the line-block being printed over it. And each linocut uses a different colour. Signor Rapp has specified the colour he wants with a Pantone colour number - if I were properly organised I would be able to mix my own inks using the Pantone formulae but I'm not so I have to go to an ink manufacturer and have them made up for me. This is not a cheap exercise as the minimum quantity is a kilo, of which I shall use just a few spoonfuls, so you can expect to see a lot of printing from The Old School Press in the future using those same colours. The first ink that arrives is a pleasing grey (Pantone Warm Gray 1U, to be precise) and the first use of it is for the floor-plans for the six villas that Signor Rapp is not illustrating. |
