Moments in the making of Oxford's Ornaments

I've put six of the smaller ornaments from the Synopsis in my stick just so that we can see the nicks on the bodies. You can see sorts with one, two, and four nicks of varying sizes. I have seen type with five nicks in the body at OUP, and it was not unusual for them to put a nick in the back, as well as the front, to distinguish different castings!

The nick is made by placing a small piece of wire in the mould.
